This flaky pastries recipe isn't very complicated, and the ingredients we use are really easy to get at any supermarket or nearby store. Few ingredients, but a great result, you'll love it.
What makes our flaky pastries different?
We strive to always use, instead of water, a citrus juice, be it orange or tangerine, and this will give a delicious touch to the final result of the flaky pastries.
In the end, instead of just using sugar, we'll also add a little ground cinnamon, and you'll see how the combination of these flavors explode in your mouth.
They'll turn out so delicious and crispy, you'll want to eat more and more, and surely, you'll prepare them much sooner than you thought.
What is a flaky pastry?
Flaky pastries are characterized by being a type of dessert. A flaky pastry is made from flour, which is fried and becomes very crispy. It's usually coated with sugar, but you can add honey, condensed milk, and caramel.
These flaky pastries were very common to find in school shops many years ago, however, once their recipe became so common, many people prepare them at home.
How to make flaky pastries?
First we mix the flour with the egg and the citrus juice, integrating little by little so that in the end all the ingredients are integrated… sometimes it's necessary to add a little more flour than the one stated in the recipe, how to know if you need more flour? If the dough sticks to your hands you need to add more.
We knead for several minutes so that the dough catches air and also to ensure that its ingredients are well integrated. Once well kneaded, we let it rest for a few minutes in a covered container.
Then we proceed to roll out the dough with a rolling pin… We roll it out well, so that the dough is very thin, and then we proceed to cut it into several pieces of the desired size.
We heat the oil, and add the pastries and fry for several minutes, once we remove them, we immediately coat them in sugar with cinnamon. And there you go, we have a delicious recipe to taste.
What to accompany the flaky pastries with?
How about if we dare to taste some flaky pastries with a delicious ice cream, we would be replacing the cone with something as crispy as flaky pastries.
And if we leave them for later and accompany them with homemade yogurt or milk in case the recipe is very sweet. Dare to explore and combine flavors.
Tips and recommendations
- Always use a citrus touch in the pastries, like orange or tangerine juice, it combines very well and gives you a spectacular result.
- Don't just use sugar, combine it with cinnamon, it will give an exotic touch to the pastries and they will be delicious.
- Use more or less flour than indicated in the recipe, because the size of the egg, the quality of the flour and the juice can make the measure of the flour vary a little.
- You will know that the dough is ready and does not need more flour when, when kneading, it does not stick to your hands.
